My Top 5 Favorite Natural Hair Youtubers

It is nice to watch Youtube and find other natural curly girls with the same hair texture as you but, you should not get caught up and think that your curls will look exactly like theirs. You can use their Youtube channels as a reference and can see what products and methods work for them. You should remember that just because you have the same hair texture that what works for them might not work for you and vice versa. I have 3c/4a hair and these are some of the natural hair youtubers I like to watch.

Carol's Daughter Hair Milk Cream-to-Serum Lotion

I have a product review on the Carol's Daughter Hair Milk Cream-to-Serum Lotion. If you are looking for a moisturizer or a leave-in for your curls you should give this a try. It has amazing slip and could also be used as a detangler. I would not recommend using for a styler the texture is like a thinner conditioner. I like the smell it smells like a perfume but it is not over powering and the smell does not linger after your hair dries. This product contains no Parabens, Petroleum, Mineral Oil, or Artificial Colors. The packing say it is suppose to nourish and condition the hair which I feel that it does. The main ingredients are, Agave, Mango Butter, and Meadow foam Oil. A little goes a long way, I use this product once a week and have had the same bottle for 2 months and I am only half way through the bottle. It also defines the curls really well. I have 3c/4a textured curls if you also have a looser curl pattern it would work great for you. If you have a tighter curl pattern and courser textured hair it might not be enough moisture for you but, you could still give it a try. The only con I have is the size I wish it came in multiple sizes, the only size is a 4.2fl oz bottle for $10. I give this product a 9/10 and would definitely repurchase this product. You can find this product at Target, Walmart, beauty supply stores, and on the Carol's Daughter website.

5 Leave-ins for Dry Natural Hair

Curly hair is naturally dry but,  for some of us curly girls our hair seems dry no matter what you do. Here are some leave-ins that are great for dry natural hair and add moisture.

                                                                      1. Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner- 8.5fl oz $7
This leave-in adds great moisture to those dry curls. It is packed full of oils such as Sunflower,Soybean, and Vitamin E. If you use gels like Eco Style this will not cause that annoying flaky white residue.

2. Kinky-Curly Knot Today- 8fl oz $12
This leave-in is also a detangler that melts away those knots and tangles. If you have dense thick curly hair and are in need of a good detangler you should give this a try. Works at its best when applied to soaking wet hair and this will help smooth the hair cuticle.

3. True Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner- 13fl oz $9
This sulfate free leave -in is super moisturizing and had a lot of great slip that makes detangling a breeze. This product contains Hydrolyzed Keratin, Mango oil, Shea butter, Coconut oil, and Aloe Vera. If you have low porosity or are protein sensitive I would opt for a different leave-in.

4. Carol's Daughter Hair Milk Cream-to-Serum Lotion- 4.2fl oz $10
This silicone and protein packed leave-in is by far one of my favorites. A little goes a long way and it is easy to distribute. This product is so moisturizing and, even though it has silicons it does not create any build up.

5. As I Am Leave-In Conditioner- 8fl oz $10
This leave- in is perfect if you are looking for that extra moisture under you gel. It is packed full of natural ingredients. It leaves the hair soft and manageable. It is a little thicker than most leave ins but is easily distributed. If you have fine hair I would not recommend this product.

Carol's Daughter Marula Curl Therapy Detangling Milk

If you are a newbie or even oldie to the natural hair community I have a product you should definitely give a try. This product is made by Carol's Daughter and is from the Marula Curl Therapy Collection. This is the Marula Curl Therapy Detangling Milk. This product is suppose to be used as a leave-in conditioner but, you can fit this product as a leave-in or a styler in your curly hair regimen. The detangling milk helps to detangle and moisturize those dry and frizzy curls. This product creates so much definition to my curls and makes your hair smell very good with adding softness. I use this detangling milk as a leave- in or as a styler if I am going to use a gel after. This product has a lotion like texture and is easy to distribute through the hair. This is a 8 fl oz. bottle that is $20.00. Carol's daughter products are sold in Target,Walmart,CVS,and local beauty supply stores.

Transitioning vs. Big Chop

Once you make the decision to return back to your natural hair you either can transition your hair or you can do the big chop. The main difference between transitioning and the big chop is the time frame. Time frame basically means how long the process is going to take you. Some women transition for years, others shave their heads completely, and other women like myself transition for a couple a months then do the big chop. Transitioning your hair is a method of being natural where you allow your roots(natural textured hair) to grow out while keeping the relaxed ends until you are comfortable to cut off the relaxed ends. Either of these methods are effective to achieve the goal of becoming fully natural. Transitioning is good for women/men who are not comfortable with having short hair or who have never had short hair. While doing the big chop is for us spontaneous ones who are comfortable with having shorter hair or want the experience of having short hair.

Here are some helpful tips for transitioning and for the big chop

                                                                                                             Transitioning:
Tip 1: AVOID heat completely or limit the use of heat to prevent any damage to your hair.

Tip 2: MOISTURIZE those strand to prevent dryness and breakage.

Tip 3: Protective style or do low manipulation styles to protect your hair.

Tip 4: AVOID all chemicals and dyes.

Tip 5: Deep condition and protein treat.
Tip 6: Trim your relaxed ends as needed.

                            Big chop:
Tip 1: Mentally prepare yourself for the process.

Tip 2: Wet the hair and add some conditioner to make the line of demarcation visible.

Tip 3: Get it cut by someone professional if you are not comfortable doing it yourself.

Tip 4: Do not be discouraged your hair is growing.

Tip 5: Document your journey with pictures.

Returning Natural

We all once had natural hair at some point in our childhood. Some of us were relaxed at a young age by
our mothers, while some of us styled our own hair by relaxing it, and others had their natural curls but damaged them with chemical or by using heat. Have you thought about returning back to your natural curls? It might have crossed your mind once or twice, maybe you thought it would be too much work or that you just wouldn't know what to do with your natural hair.
Let me tell you returning back to my natural curls was the best decision I could have ever made for my hair. A little history on my hair: I was completely natural until I was 11 years old in 6th grade I never wore my curls. I would blow out my hair and wear it out or but it in a bun or a ponytail. I begged my mom to let me get my hair relaxed because doing my hair was too much maintenance for me. At this point in time I've been doing my hair since 5th grade.  When I got to 6th grade I started running track and my hair could not take the humidity and sweat I was exposing it to 4 days a week.
Fast forward to my senior year of high school I was 6 years relaxed and my hair has been cut several times and dyed twice. My hair was not damaged it was just thinning and the ends due to me straightening my hair everyday. My best friend was already natural she never had a her permed. I wondered how I could get my hair like that. I then began to research many different ways to have natural hair and what steps that I needed to take.
I had many set back when it came to returning back to my natural hair I dyed my hair and continued using heat on my hair which continued to damage my hair. A few months after graduating high school I decided to go back to my natural hair journey. I wanted a fresh start and wasn't too attached to my hair so after a month of letting my hair grow a little I had my mom cut off all of my straight relaxed ends and was left with 2 inches of hair. I honestly felt liberated and my hair has begun to flourish. I am currently 5 months natural and My hair and I have grown so much. I hope to encourage you with your natural hair journey and also help you along with your journey. We're in this together- Mhadrja XOXO
